So, originally I had planned on doing a Series Spotlight feature for several of these series that I enjoyed but I feel like I will never have time to write out a full review!
Here are a few of my favorites that have been out for a while but are still fun to read and worth picking up over and over. I hope you enjoy!
The Wishes Series by G.J. Walker-Smith
For Charli Blake, being seventeen is a tough gig.
She’s been branded a troublemaker, her reputation is in tatters and she’s stuck in Pipers Cove, a speck of a town on the coast of Tasmania. Thankfully, it’s temporary. Her lifelong dream of traveling the world is just months away from becoming reality. All she has to do is ride out the last few months of high school, which is easier said than done thanks to a trio of mean girls known as The Beautifuls.
When Adam Décarie arrives in town, all the way from New York, life takes an unexpected turn. His arrival sets off a chain of events that alters her life forever, convincing her of one thing: fate brought him to her.
Saving Wishes is the story of a girl who doesn’t quite fit the life she’s living, and the boy who helps her realize why.
This book series is great! Full of drama, relationship angst, heartbreak and even a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming! Charli and Adam have great chemistry and are multidimensional. Not to mention, I really liked the way the other array of characters and how they interacted with them. I dug the plot, although it isn’t completely original, they way it is written felt fresh and fun. All three books are out so there is no waiting! Plus, the first one is free on your kindle!
The Happenstance Series by Jamie McGuire
#1 New York Times Bestseller Jamie McGuire returns to self-publishing with this page-turning YA account of Erin Easter, one of three Erins in the small senior class of rural Blackwell High School who not only share a first name, but also their birthday. Easter, raised by a neglectful single mom, keeps to herself and admires Weston Gates from afar. The other Erins, Erin “Alder” Alderman and Erin “Sonny” Masterson are the darlings of the community: daughters of the two wealthiest families in town, best friends, cheerleaders, and everything Easter isn’t–and they never let her forget it. Alder has even claimed Weston since the 8th grade.
Weston is a well-liked star athlete, and the son of two prominent attorneys. He struggles daily with the pressures of living up to his family name and secretly empathizes with Easter’s feeling that she belongs somewhere else; in a different life. Not until he begins sneaking nights out with Easter does he gain the courage to buck expectations and acknowledge his feelings … both for his future, and for her.
A shocking tragedy rocks the tiny town, and Easter’s life is turned upside down in the best way possible. But when the truth is revealed and everything she thinks she wanted falls into her lap, life only becomes more complicated.
So I know what you are thinking.. more YA Jill? Yes! I absolutely adore Jamie McGuire and after reading Beautiful Disaster and falling in love with Travis, I was eager to try out something else she had written. This novella series is much more emotional than I expected. I really thought the chemistry between mains was cute. Weston seems a bit shady at first and then you fall in love with him. The teenage high school hatred runs strong in this one and it brings you back to how terrible girls can really be at that age. There are some definitely unexpected plot twists that I found especially encouraging and made binge reading this series easy. This is aimed at a YA audience and that is exactly how this book reads. Life affirming? Nah. Fun and easy to read? Yep!
Forces of Nature Series by Amber Lynn Natusch
Piper Jones can’t catch a break.
After a lifetime of animosity and indifference from the supernatural community, she thought she’d finally found a home with the vampire king’s enforcers. Then the dark and mysterious Merc walks into her life, and it takes a disastrous turn for the worse.
Now under attack by enemies both known and unknown, Piper has little choice but to flee her refuge—and start over in a place few vampires ever go. Rural Alaska seemed to fit the bill, except for Knox and his crew of werewolves. The pack shares a connection with Piper that few of them can explain, and none of them can escape. With time running out for answers, Piper must fight the demons of her past to ensure her future—or die trying.
This series is intense! Piper has an insane life! I will be honest, she gets to be a little extra at times and does dip into whiney territory but overall she is well-built and entertaining. I am not a HUGE fan of annoying love triangles and there is a bit of one in this but the plot and continued action really kept me intrigued through all three books. They are well written and the dialogue is witty and funny at times. If you enjoy paranormal YA with a romance twist this is one you can probably bet on. It hasn’t been out all that long but it also isn’t a new release. Plus, the first book is free on Kindle Unlimited!
The Hidden Gems Series by India Lee
Lavishly disguised pop singer, Queen Bee, is known abroad for her high-fashion wardrobe and killer vocals. In the states, she’s just Gemma Hunter – shy suburban teenager in her strange new role of high school junior.
Luckily, Gemma is taken under the wing of the fiery and popular Madison, who leads her into the high school life of the charmed. Her world as Gemma quickly becomes everything she ever wanted in a normal life – that is until international teen heartthrob, Tyler Chase, announces his celebrity crush on Queen Bee. Suddenly, Gemma’s alter ego becomes a household name as the handsome singer’s loyal “Tyler Chasers” create a frenzy to discover her true identity.
And just when Gemma thinks she can hide from the celebrity drama in her high school life, Lucas – her next door neighbor as well as Madison’s boyfriend – develops an interest in her that goes far beyond platonic, and Gemma soon learns that rumors aren’t strictly for the stars
This is the Taylor Swift meets Hannah Montana of books. This story is just the cutest. I have read this five book series over and over and I don’t care who knows it! It is juvenile in certain parts because it is definitely written for a teen audience but I am just smitten with it! I love everything about it. How obvious it is at times, how cute the characters interact with each other, the plot twist at the end. I love her persona and how silly it is. India Lee hit it out of the park with this series, it is something I always go back to when I want something light and fluffy that won’t tear my heart out or make me want to climb through the screen on my e-reader and punch someone.
Alrighty! I will post up more of my favorites next week. I hope you enjoy these for now! All the links are live and will take you to the selected books on Amazon.
