One stupid party. One stupid boy. One stupid kiss. And my life was virtually over.
Tessa McCaide has a unique talent for getting into trouble. Then again, it isn’t easy for a girl with visions to ignore what she sees. Luckily Tessa and her family are leaving California and moving halfway across the country, giving her the perfect opportunity to leave her reputation as “Freaky Tessa” behind.
But Tessa doesn’t realize that kissing the wrong guy in her new Texas town could land her in far more trouble than she ever imagined. Like being forced to attend St. Ailbe’s Academy, a secret boarding school for werewolves.
Even if the wrong guy did accidentally turn her into one of “them” and doom her to attending the weirdest high school ever, Tessa can’t help her growing attraction to the mysterious Dastien Laurent.
When vampires attack St. Alibe’s and her visions pinpoint an enemy in their midst, Tessa realizes that boy drama and her newfound canine tendencies might just be the least of her problems.
Most Loved Excerpt:
“I knew I should pull away from him, but the look he was giving me warned me not to even try. I was paralyzed as I waited for one of us to break the silence. That was the second time my visions had gone all wonky. This time was way more unsettling than the last. And shit. Dad was going to be pissed. His lips turned up as the thought ran through my mind. ” I see we’ve both got out secrets,” he whispered so that only I could hear it.”
This week’s “Series Spotlight” is one of my favorite paranormal book series. This is more aimed at young adult’s and mature teens. The Alpha Girl Series consists of six books, the first five are out and the sixth book is coming out this year. In true Series Spotlight style, I will highlight the first book in the series only. Discussing the events in the rest of the series will give up spoilers and I am so not cool with that.
Becoming Alpha , the first book in the series, follows Teresa “Tessa” McCaide . Far from your average girl, Tessa has spent most of her life being an outcast. She, like her grandmother before her, has inherited a gift of sorts. When she touches a person’s skin she is transported into memories and experiences emotions they have had. Which can be extremely gross at times, seeing as she has an older brother..just think about it. When she touches an object, especially something used, she glimpses the emotions the person or persons that came into contact with it before have felt while also touching it. Worst part is, it isn’t exactly a secret so she is pretty much known as a total freak. Moving from Los Angeles to a small town with her family after her father lands a new job, Tessa finds herself back in the same situation she left. Same clicks, same snobs and same teenage drama that left her feeling like an outsider, except this time she really is one.
One night Tessa is invited to a party and runs into the magically delicious Dastien, a teacher at the neighboring St. Albi’s academy. She was warned by her father and his boss to stay far away from the troubled students that attend the illusive and elitist academy but no one said anything about a teacher right? Yeah. One super hot kiss and a not so sexy nibble later, Tessa finds herself in the hospital burning up and in extreme pain only to realize not only is she turning into a werewolf, she is now forced to attend the academy away from her parents…with the super douche that ruined her life. Did I mention St. Albi’s is a boarding school for elite werewolves? Yeah. Would have been nice for her to know right?
This book is cheeky and fun and the series is entertaining as well. The first book is my absolute favorite but that is usually the case for me. Tessa is a smart mouthed, feisty ball of sass and I love her. I feel like if I were to be anyone in literature, I would totally be her. She isn’t a push over, she knows when she is being ridiculous and she tells it like it is.I mean the hot mess of things that happen are things only she could manage to bring on. The chick has some seriously terrible luck . The emotions and the chemistry between her and Dastien and their dynamic is enthralling. Not to mention Dastien is HOT. No worries for you non-smut readers. This series although containing language and violence is not full of raunchy sex scenes. The emotions this book forces you to feel as a result of the unique energy between Tessa and Dastien are sexy though. Plenty of teenage angst and hormone rage induced drama.
I can’t speak for the sixth book because it hasn’t come out yet. The first book focuses the most on the developing feelings between Dastien and Tessa and the rest of the series is about their attempt to overcome evil, survive, keep their friends and family safe.. you know the usual. I highly recommend the first book. If you like that one, you’d like the rest of them.
